Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra
3D worlds for a Roblox game about classical music
A game of musical quests
For Accenture Song I was involved in the development of Final Score, a Roblox game for the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra made with the ELJA Foundation. As part of the 3D art team, I helped create the worlds for the game, including environmental assets, characters and animations.
The game is about musical quests across a set of themed worlds. I worked on the first two: Musical Village and Volcano World. In Blender we built musical environments, folding instruments into architecture, paths and landmarks so the world itself reads as a score.
Play as the Maestro
Final Score is a free multiplayer adventure on Roblox, aimed at players around 10 to 16. You play as the Maestro, collect magical instruments and move through five worlds — Harmony Farms, Fort Issimo, Mt. Misty Möll, Aria Tundra and Sporchestra Woods — to take down titans, gather notes and rescue orchestra musicians.
Each instrument has its own abilities. The further you go, the tougher the guardians, and the richer the soundtrack. Since launch the game has been played hundreds of thousands of times worldwide, and two later worlds completed the map.
Musical Village
Musical Village was the first world I worked on. Windmills, barns and footpaths sit next to instrument-shaped ruins and a treble-clef monument, so players learn the language of the orchestra by walking through it.
We kept the silhouette language low-poly and readable on mobile, and used colour and scale so landmarks could double as wayfinding.
Volcano World
Volcano World is the hotter counterpart: lava rivers, crystal flora and a fortress that feels like a living instrument. The island is scored with parts of Wagner’s Götterdämmerung, so the environment needed that same scale. Dark ground, neon edges, and props that still read as music when you run past them on a quest.
I modelled paths, vegetation and set pieces so players could wander and pick up quests without the world collapsing into a corridor. Giant violins, organ-like towers and an airship give you a reason to look up.
An orchestra on the soundtrack
Every piece of music in Final Score was performed by the Concertgebouw Orchestra. The lobby uses Helstone’s Het pand der goden; elsewhere you hear Debussy, Beethoven, Mozart and Stravinsky. Even the sound effects were recorded by orchestra musicians on flute, trumpet, trombone, percussion and piccolo.
That made the 3D work feel less like dressing a generic Roblox map and more like building rooms for a live recording. If the world did not leave space for the music, it was not finished.
Built with its players
The orchestra’s aim was to reach a young audience where they already play. More than fifty young people from ELJA Young joined research, co-creation and testing, and Accenture Song built the game with that feedback in the loop.
